College Of New Rochelle Announces Certificate Programs

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- The College of New Rochelle School of Arts and Sciences has announced two new certificate programs: forensic science and sports marketing.

Both programs are currently being offered for traditional undergraduate students seeking degrees.

The forensic studies certificate is a 15-credit program that combines classroom, laboratory and experiential learning opportunities to provide students with the knowledge, skills and experiences to understand the role of scientific investigation in today's law enforcement and criminal justice sectors.

“For science majors, the certificate provides a practical application of the skills they learn in their chemistry and biological classes, as well as an opportunity to explore the social, psychological and legal dimensions of forensic studies,” said Roblyn Rawlins, School of Arts and Sciences certificate programs coordinator and associate professor of sociology.

“For non-science majors, the fundamentals course provides a laboratory experience focused on a compelling and important topic area.”

The sports marketing certificate program is designed to provide students with the knowledge, skills and experiences to work within sports-related environments – from local teams to global corporations – with an emphasis on the marketing of sports and sports-related products and brands.

Combining experiential learning with liberal arts coursework, this 15-credit certificate includes an internship in a sports media or marketing environment that will involve the creation of a professional portfolio.

“Students understandably tend to know a great deal about the famous athletes of their favorite sport," said Michael Quinn, program director and associate professor of communication arts.

"In this program, we try to expand their horizons to show what goes into sport as an industry: the marketing aspect, important legal issues, the relationship among leagues, owners, agents, and players, among other things.”

Students must be enrolled in the College of New Rochelle School of Arts and Sciences to participate in either certificate program.
