Any elementary school has a chance to win a quick $500 and all are competing for the grand prize of $10,000 donated to its school's Parent Teacher Association/Organization. Plenty of schools have already earned a $500 prize, but there's still a lot of time left. The winner will be announced on Oct. 29.

why is it being donated to the PTA and not the school itself? the PTA in our town is nothing but a bunch of clicky self promoting women. i would be more apt to send this on to friends if it was actually a donation to the school.
I believe that since this is a charitable donation by Entergy & MainStreetConnect, it has to be given to a non-profit association affiliated with the school in order to be tax deductible for the donor. In addition, since schools are "public" and funds to run them are raised by taxes, I do not think they are allowed by law to accept donations. This is so that wealthy districts do not have an advantage over poorer districts and why some districts now have Foundations which are technically separate from the schools but which are a way of funding by donation, not by taxation. I presume that however clicky and self-promoting your PTA is, these women are not taking the funds they raise or the programs they support home for themselves. The money is going to the school and the kids. If you want to have a say in where it goes, join the PTA and let your voice be heard.
