NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- Three New Rochelle High School seniors are among the 16,000 Semifinalists in the annual National Merit Scholarship Program.
These students now have an opportunity to continue in the competition for National Merit Scholarships worth a total of more that $32 million that will be awarded next spring.
About 1.5 million juniors in 22,000 high schools entered the 2014 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) in October 2012.
The National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists are the highest-scoring entrants and represent less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors.
Additionally, five New Rochelle High school students are among the 1,600 African-American high school seniors who have been designated semifinalists in the National Achievement Program.
The five Achievement Semifinalists are the most of any school in New York State outside of two high schools in New York City.
