The 38-year-old Huntington Station man – who prosecutors are not naming in order to protect the victim’s identity – pleaded guilty to multiple sex crimes in Suffolk County Court on Wednesday, Jan. 10.

According to prosecutors, the man began abusing the girl in the summer of 2016, when she was 7 years old, during his weekend visitations.

Prior to that time, he had not been involved in her life.

The man admitted to telling the girl that “something bad” would happen to her if she told anyone about the abuse. He also bought her gifts as an apology, according to prosecutors.

The abuse continued until 2019, when the victim was 10 years old. She told her mother that she no longer felt comfortable sleeping at her father’s home.

In 2022, the girl reported the abuse to a teacher, prompting an investigation by the Suffolk County Police Department.

“This defendant was an absent father who came back into his child’s life only to sexually abuse her shortly thereafter,” said Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney.

“Fortunately, the victim felt comfortable confiding in her teacher which led to a thorough investigation by the Suffolk County Police Department and prosecution by my office, culminating in his admittance of guilt.

"I want to thank everyone involved in this case for zealously protecting the rights of this child.”

In court Wednesday, the man pleaded guilty to the following charges:

  • Two counts of course of sexual conduct against a child (felonies)
  • Sexual abuse (misdemeanor)
  • Endangering the welfare of a child (misdemeanor)

He is due back in court for sentencing on Friday, Feb. 9.
