The fires occurred at about on Monday afternoon, Sept. 18. The fires caused "significant traffic issues," police said.

  • Route 27 was closed between Kingston Terrace Drive and Raymond Road, police said. A pole fire on Route 27 is preventing vehicles from heading southbound.
  • Route 1 north near Whispering Woods Drive also was closed. A fire on the utility pole has brought wires onto Route 1 northbound. Southbound lanes may also need to be closed soon, police said. Use Route 522 as an alternate.

PSEG has been notified and was responding, police said about 3 p.m.

Avoid Route 1 from New Road to Route 522. Avoid Route 27 south of Promenade Blvd.
