Joseph Mahoney, 48, of Yonkers went off-road near Wolf Pond Road, hitting a large tree and being thrown from his Yamaha Grizzly all-terrain vehicle shortly before 9 p.m., the sheriff said.

He was taken to Glens Falls Hospital and transferred to Albany Medical Center with potential life-threatening injuries. He was not wearing a helmet, appears to have been going at an excessive speed, the sheriff said. The Stony Creek Fire Department, Stony Creek and Luzerne-Hadley emergency medical squads responded to the scene.

Excessive speed appears to be the contributing factor in this crash.

The accident remains under investigation by the Warren County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Safety Unit with assistance from members of the Patrol Division.
