Ridgefield mayor faces new abuse-in-office charges

As if federal corruption charges weren’t enough, not to mention the furor caused by his refusing to step down, Ridgefield Mayor Anthony Suarez is being sued in state court by a man who claims the mayor deliberately had him arrested as payback for a dispute.

A week after last month’s FBI arrests, Michael Taffaro of Moonachie filed a seven-count complaint in state Superior Court in Hackensack accusing Suarez of having police issue an arrest warrant in late 2007 charging him with lying on a public information request, NJLJ.com is reporting.

In a portion of the suit cited by the New Jersey Law Journal, Taffaro said he believes “that Mayor Suarez personally ordered the warrant’s issuance.”

At the time, Taffaro was fighting in probate court over his mother’s estate with his sister, Susan Taffaro — a borough planning board secretary who also happens to be Suarez’s neighbor and close friend.

Her probate lawyer? Suarez.
