Damenn C. Nelson, 38, of Passaic, was with his four children and their mother when Officer Gregory Mulawka pulled his car over on West Passaic Street yesterday.

A computer check showed a warrant for failing to pay child support, Detective Mark Gillies said.

“Due to a strong odor of raw marijuana inside the vehicle, the vehicle was secured and a search warrant was obtained to search the vehicle,” Gillies said.

The search turned up several bags of marijuana and a digital scale concealed in a children’s car seat, the detective said.

Nelson, who owes more than $6,100 in child support, according to court records, is being held on $25,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail.

He is charged with possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute the drug, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute in a school zone and endangering the welfare of his child.
