Alice M. ONeill, a former longtime resident of New Canaan, died Wednesday, May 11, at Norwalk Hospital. O'Neill, who was 83 years old, lived in Redding. Born on Sept. 5, 1927 in Joliet, Ill., she graduated from the Art Institute of Chicago and had worked as an interior designer. She was predeceased by her husband, James P. O'Neill, and first husband, Eugene E. Smith. Surviving is her son, Michael Smith, and his wife, Jennifer Rose, of Stamford. A funeral service was held Monday at Hoyt Funeral Home in New Canaan. Burial was in Lakeview Cemetery.
