Audi Flies Under the Radar

Audi of Fairfield Sales Manager Anthony Ferreone couldn't be in a better business, as far as he's concerned. "I get to deal with my three favorite things, cars, people, and money," he says.

Anthony could have said "a lot of money" without exaggerating. While the 2010 Audi A3 starts at a reasonable $27,270, the super-sleek, mega-popular R8 starts at $114,200. It's a hot enough automobile for Robert Downey Jr. as superhero Tony Stark to drive one in Iron Man 2, but Anthony says what sets most Audi enthusiasts apart is their unwillingness to show off.

"Our main clients are educated professionals who like to fly under the radar," he says. "They're not as ostentatious as Mercedes or BMW drivers."

Still, people who will drop over $100K for a vehicle can be picky. "If you're going to spend that much on a car, you'll want to customize it," he says. Audi buyers have the luxury of choosing and approving practically every feature, from engine type to the color/fabric of the seats to the navigation system, and they make every decision very carefully.

"You're not just going to say, 'Oh, that one looks good, I'll take it.'"

Apart from enjoying the product he pushes, Anthony appreciates Audi's company design and mission.

"We do fundraising for foundations like Bridgeport Rescue Mission," says Anthony, who grew up in Bridgeport (he now resides in Oxford). A massive corporation with progressive views and community interest, Anthony calls Audi the "IBM of the automotive industry."

"This is a great place to work," he says.
