"Justin Wagner will be a leader for the lower Hudson Valley and a strong representative in Albany that we can count on to represent our values and work for the middle class," Lowey said in a press release.

"I look forward to working with him on so many issues that matter to our communities, like the Women's Equality Act and property tax relief. Justin Wagner has the energy and the determination to accomplish great things for all New Yorkers, and I hope you will join me in supporting him on November 4th."

Wagner, a Democrat, is running against Republican and Yorktown councilman Terrence Murphy for the 40th District seat. The current senator for the district, Republican Greg Ball, chose not to run for re-election.

Lowey (D-Harrison) was first elected to Congress in 1988. She represents New York's 17th Congressional District, which encompasses a large portion of the 40th State Senate District. The 40th District includes parts of Westchester, Putnam and Dutchess counties.

"Rep. Lowey is a champion for hardworking families throughout the Hudson Valley," Wagner said in a news release.

"I am honored and humbled to have her support. In addition to joining the Congresswoman in the fight for women's equality, I look forward to working closely with her on rebuilding our infrastructure, creating jobs, lowering taxes, and ensuring the Hudson Valley continues to be a great place to live and raise a family."
