Russian President Vladmir Putin jokingly offered the former FBI director and Yonkers native asylum if he gets in trouble leaking recorded conversations he had with President Donald Trump.

Putin made the comments during an appearance on Russian TV in which he took calls from Russians for four hours.

Putin compared Comey to Edward Snowden. Snowden, a whistleblower who leaked classified material from the National Security Agency, was granted asylum in Russa. He also once again denied interfering in last year's presidential election.

During his testimony before Congress last week, Comey admitted to giving an unclassified memo about a conversation he had with Trump to a Columbia professor who then promptly provided it to the press. Comey said he did this to trigger a special counsel to investigate Russian interference in the presidential election.

Comey lived in Yonkers until he was a teenager. He is the grandson of longtime Yonkers police officer - and former Police Commissioner William Comey and served as a U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York before being chosen by then President Barack Obama to head the FBI in 2013 on a 10-year appointment.
