NY's Schumer Aims For Senate Democratic Leader Post

PORT CHESTER, N.Y. -- Less than a week after Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., announced he will retire in 2016, U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer, D-NY, confirmed he has enough support to succeed Reid.

Schumer, speaking at a news conference outside Port Chester Village Hall on Tuesday, said, "I'm humbled that every one of my colleagues has endorsed me."

Schumer reportedly has commitments of support from all 42 Senate Democrats returning for the 115th Congress.

Schumer and seven other Senate Democrats are up for re-election next year. All are favored incumbents.

"I love New York. It's in my bones,'' Schumer said. "That will not diminish. When you're out in the communities, you do your job better."
