The grant, which is being awarded through the Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant program, will be used to replace aging rescue equipment often used in helping victims of car accidents and other emergencies.

“North Castle is fortunate to have such a concerned professional volunteer fire department. Their knowledge, training and continued efforts to upgrade their safety equipment protect the citizens of North White Plains and the surrounding area.  This is an excellent use of federal grant monies,” said North Castle Town Supervisor Howard Arden.

The Assistance to Firefighters Grant program, which is administered by the Department of Homeland Security Office of Grants and Training, awards grants directly to local fire departments and Emergency Medical Services organizations. The funds may be used to increase the effectiveness of firefighting operations, firefighter health and safety programs, emergency medical service programs, fire prevention and safety programs, and to purchase new fire equipment.

“Department of Homeland Security funding has been an invaluable source of support for New York’s first responders,” said Congresswoman Lowey.

“At a time when federal budget cuts are forcing reductions to critical services that keep communities safe, it is welcome news that our first responders in Westchester County will have access to this funding.”
