New Rochelle Council Presented With Design for Medical Office Building

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – The New Rochelle City Council was presented Tuesday evening with a proposed $35 million project to create a new parking garage and medical office building next to where the current Sound Shore Medical Center sits at 16 Guion Place.

“This building is definitely adequate for health care for the surrounding community, and the New Rochelle community,” said Landmark Healthcare Facilities president Anthony Lampasona during his group’s presentation to the council.

District 1 Council member Louis Trangucci wanted to be sure the parking garage, expected to cost $9 million, would not affect the residents who live in nearby neighborhoods.

District 3 Council member Jared Rice was concerned about what retail facilities Landmark planned on putting in the space. District 2 Council member Albert Tarantino is one of many council members who said he is looking forward to the project for its economic gain to the city.

I’m very excited about the project,” said Tarantino.

The council will discuss during its regular legislative session next Tuesday the possibility of whether or not the property could be exempt from paying taxes.

New Rochelle officials said the city is also protecting itself from any liabilities and financial obligations that might arise with the project if it does not work out.

The office building, estimated to cost $26 million, would be funded by the medical center itself, through private financing and investments with Landmark.

The 100,000 square foot project is scheduled to go before the city’s planning board next month. It is here that the city will begin the process for obtaining approval for plans for the site.

Construction would begin this December, and be completed by next December if all goes according to plan.
