"It was a very rewarding experience that helped all of us clarify our professional, and, sometimes personal, missions and offered outstanding strategies for building effective teams, communication and listening," Bramson said Friday.

The signature community-leadership building program of Volunteer New York! is celebrating Bramson and 19 other everyday heroes Tuesday, June 23, at an induction ceremony at Westchester Community College in Valhalla. The ceremony runs from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the college’s Gateway Center.

“This is not your usual executive training program. It is an opportunity to become an effective leader by identifying one’s core values and developing authentic presence. It is truly transformative,” said Laura Rossi, Esq., a 2015 Leadership Westchester graduate and executive director of the Westchester Community Foundation.

Bramson, a lifelong Westchester resident, has been New Rochelle’s mayor since 2006. Prior to that, he served for 10 years on the City Council.

According to the city’s website, Bramson has enhanced the community by attracting new private investment in its central business district, helping to create jobs; by advocating for thoughtful community planning, by promoting efforts to establish new public access to the Long Island Sound shore, and by adopting land use policies that both preserve open space and protect neighborhoods from overdevelopment. He has also, the city said, served on numerous civic organizations.

Bramson is married to Catherine Stern, a clinical pediatric neuropsychologist. The couple has two sons, Jeremy and Owen.

This year’s Alumna of Year is Kate Bialo, who is a corporate attorney, a member of Leadership Westchester’s Class of 2007, and the founder of the nonprofit furniture bank, Furniture Sharehouse. To date, the furniture bank has helped provide 47,000 pieces of free furniture to more than 8,700 individuals in need, Leadership Westchester said.

Besides Bramson and Rossi, the other members of the class (and the organizations they represent) are: Hamra Ahmad, Hudson Valley Justice Center; Judy Eisele, YWCA of Westchester; Tracey Zimmerman, The Westchester Bank; Tessa Garcia, The Journal News Media Group; Lindsay McAllister, Reader’s Digest Association; Alicia Brockway, M&T Bank; Karen Daugherty, Bunge; Rosario Samudio, Volunteer New York!; Donna Banks, Communications Professional; Ian Ceppos, Colliers International; Jackie Vanover, Network System Solutions; Lauren Candela-Katz, LCK Consulting; Paula Saraiva, People’s United Bank; Lini Jacob, United Way of Westchester and Putnam; Diane Tukman, My Sisters’ Place; Lindsey Jones, Axiom Legal; Kathleen Reckling, ArtsWestchester; and, Sabine Werner, Leviticus Alternative Fund.

Volunteer New York! connects individuals to nonprofit organizations and organized volunteer projects, helping strengthen the quality of life in Westchester, Rockland and Putnam counties. Over 240,000 hours of service were devoted last year to 500 nonprofits at a value of over $7.2 million, it said. Volunteer New York! is currently accepting applications for the class of 2016.
