The Greenburgh Town Board interviewed potential tenants to lease the WestHELP property on Tuesday, with Greenburgh Town Supervisor Paul Feiner noting town officials will continue the interviews before a decision is made.

“We were impressed with the proposals and want to do our due diligence before finalizing a selection,” Feiner said. “Our goal: to generate the maximum rent possible for the property to enable us to keep your taxes as low as possible and to provide affordable housing opportunities to seniors at this beautiful campus.”

The Yonkers-based Ferncliff Manor had planned to knock down the existing buildings. Greenburgh town officials said they supported Ferncliff over other proposals because they offered more money than any other bidder. State officials shut down the proposal last week.

Town officials are considering several bids on the property for affordable housing, including a $350,000 plan to renovate the 108 rooms and a $2.2 million proposal to turn the property into affordable housing for senior citizens.
