WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. - With President-elect Donald Trump beginning to fill his cabinet, Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino has remained mum about rumors he may be in line for appointment as the Department of Housing and Urban Development secretary.

Since Trump’s surprise win in the presidential election, rumors have swirled that Astorino may be headed to Washington to serve his “friend of 15 years’” as head of HUD, though the county exec has neither confirmed nor denied that he was in the running.

At the Business Council of Westchester KeyBank Speaker Series on Wednesday, Astorino called the notion “crazy,” but didn’t rule out the idea of joining Trump.

“It’s crazy how life can change real quick. I don’t expect it, but I’ll certainly take the call,” he mused during a question-and-answer with the BCW. “It’s crazy to be considered for a Cabinet position, but there’s also something to be said when you love the job you have, you love the country you live in and can tuck your kids in at night and sleep in your own bed.”

As for the next President, Astorino said that America can expect a different president than the candidate they got during the campaign. He also said that he knows his Republican Party has a lot at stake after seizing control of both Houses of Congress and the White House.

“We’ve golfed together and we’ve campaigned together,” Astorino said of Trump. “I expect people will see the pragmatic side of him now. The campaign can bring things out of people. But I know there’s a lot at risk for my party and a lot of responsibility after this election.”

Trump, who owns the Seven Springs estate in Bedford, also owns Trump National Golf Club Hudson Valley in Stormville and Trump National Westchester in Briarcliff Manor. The Trump name also adorns Trump Tower At City Center in White Plains, Trump Plaza in New Rochelle, Trump Park Residences in Yorktown and the Donald J. Trump State Park on the Westchester/Putnam border.
