Yonkers police responding to the report of a shooting around 12:25 a.m. at 67 Cliff Ave., found a 23-year-old woman who had been shot once in the arm, said Officer Dean Politopoulos.

The woman was transported to an area hospital as detectives from the Major Case Unit and Crime Scene Unit responded, interviewing subjects, canvassing for witnesses and surveillance video, and processing forensic and ballistic evidence, Politopoulos said.

The preliminary investigation found that the victim was loitering in front of the location with several others when the shooting suspect pulled up in a vehicle, exchanged words with them, and then pulled out a handgun and fired several shots in the direction of the victim, striking her one time, Politopoulos said.

He then fled the scene in the same vehicle. This incident was apparently an escalation of an earlier dispute involving the same group who know each other; it was not a random event, he added.

Detectives are actively investigating this incident, and are urging anyone with information to call the Yonkers Police Department at (914) 377-7900.
