Carlos Echevarria, 37, of Hollywood, came into the weigh station scale at around 6:30 p.m. and was stopped for a routine credentials check when he told state troopers about the gun that was located in an unlocked compartment behind the driver's seat, according to Connecticut State Police.

Echevarria, who had a prior felony conviction, did not have a state weapons permit for the gun, which had a high-capacity magazine capable of holding 12 rounds, police said.

He was taken to Troop G in Bridgeport for processing where his bond was set at $25,000. Echevarria was unable to post bond and is set to appear Thursday in Stamford Superior Court.
