At approximately 4:30 p.m. on Nov. 17, police responded to Bank of America on Wilmot Road when the bank manager flagged Athina Alexander, 18, of Brooklyn who was attempting to cash a check with her name that actually belonged to a Staten Island businessman.

According to police, while she was being interviewed, Alexander told detectives that she took a train from Brooklyn to a McDonalds in the Bronx, where she was supposed to meet with a friend from Facebook named “Diante Santana.”

When she arrived at her destination, Alexander was met by two unidentified black males who said they were “Diante’s cousins" and instructed her to get in an SUV and go for a ride.

Alexander stated she had never met the two men, and described the driver as “tall, dark skinned, with a beard in his 20s,” and the passenger as “light skinned and bulky.” She said that when she got in in the car, she did not know her destination.

The operator drove into Scarsdale from the Bronx, parking in front of Seven Woks in the Golden Horseshoe Shopping Center before handing Alexander a check, payable to herself, instructing her to cash it at the Bank of America several buildings down. The driver “further stated to the suspect that he will explain afterwards.”

When Alexander attempted to cash the check, it was flagged as suspicious and a New Rochelle police officer that was on scene took her into custody. She was then released to the Scarsdale Police Department, where she was charged with a felony count of possession of a forged instrument and misdemeanor charges of unlawful possession of personal identification and petit larceny.

Assistant District Attorney Virginia Marciano told the department that they were prosecuting all three charges and recommended a $5,000 bail. She was arraigned in Scarsdale Village Court by Judge Jack Alemany and given a $2,000 cash bail she could not post. She has been remanded to Westchester County Jail.
