Son Of New Rochelle's Willie Colon Spared Prison Time In Child Porn Case

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – A 23-year-old New Rochelle man, and son of Salsa legend Willie Colon, was spared prison time earlier this week for possessing child pornography, according to a USA Today report.

Patrick Colon was sentenced Tuesday in U.S. District Court to five years of supervised release.  He spent one day in jail and a period in home confinement following his arrest in March 2011, the report said.

Colon pleaded guilty in November 2012 to one count of possessing child pornography.  He must register as a sex offender, be supervised on the registry for at least the next 10 years and he will be subject to a computer monitoring program, USA Today reported.

Originally, Colon was charged by the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office after an investigator used a peer-to-peer network to download a video from his computer showing a man engaging in sexual conduct with a young girl, court documents said, according to the report.  State charges were later dropped and federal prosecution began in late 2011, USA Today reported.
