Scarsdale Police Investigate After Man Confesses To 2012 Shooting Homicide

SCARSDALE, N.Y. - Detectives with the Scarsdale Police Department have arrested and are investigating a man who confessed to a homicide he committed in Georgia five years ago.

On Tuesday, Scarsdale Police Capt. Thomas Altizio announced that last month, a man surrendered to authorities at Scarsdale Police Headquarters last week, confessing to a shooting homicide that occurred in Roswell, Georgia in January 2012.

According to police, shortly after 9 a.m. on Jan. 6, the 37-year-old man was interviewed by officials with the Scarsdale Police Department, where he confessed to the crime. The department’s Investigations Section then contacted the Roswell Police Department in Georgia to confirm the details of the suspect’s statement.

Following the man’s confession, the Roswell Police Department obtained an arrest warrant, and the suspect was arrested by the Scarsdale Police Department on a fugitive from justice charge. Investigators from Roswell have since traveled to Scarsdale to meet with police, interview the suspect and progress their investigation.

The man - whose identity is not being released as the investigation is ongoing - was arraigned in Scarsdale Village Court and remanded to the Westchester County Jail, where he is being held pending a Superior Court Hearing.
