WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. - Police are investigating the "suspicious" death of a 7-year-old girl who was found deceased in her bed in New Rochelle on Tuesday.

At approximately 3:18 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon, officers were dispatched to a home on Arbor Glen following reports of a male who was bleeding from a wound to his wrist, New Rochelle Police Captain Robert Gazzola said.

While inside the home investigating, Gazzola said that the officers discovered the body of a 7-year-old girl who was in her bed, apparently deceased. The bleeding male, believed to be the girl’s father, was taken by police and paramedics to a local hospital for treatment.

The Westchester County Medical Examiner and District Attorney’s Office are assisting the New Rochelle Police Department with the investigation.

In a statement, the New Rochelle School District said that the Ward School would be opening on Wednesday with a crisis team in place that includes grief counselors to assist staff and students.

"The City School District of New Rochelle and Ward School are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of one of our students. The student's family is in all of our thoughts and prayers."

Gazzola said that this is an active investigation and that no further information will be provided at this time. Anyone with information can contact the New Rochelle Police Department’s General Investigations Unit at (914) 654-2270.
