New Rochelle Traffic Stop Leads To Drug Arrests

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – Two Connecticut residents were arraigned Tuesday in New Rochelle City Court after Westchester County Police arrested them Monday for having ketamine, hallucinogenic mushrooms and LSD, according to Westchester County Public Information Officer Kieran O’Leary.

Teodoro Salazar, 30; and Somer Salazar, 30; both of Naugatuck, Conn., were held overnight Monday at county police headquarters in Hawthorne, N.Y., and sent without bail to the Westchester County Jail in Valhalla, O’Leary said.

County police detectives David Minet and Joseph Berardi were traveling on the northbound Hutchinson River Parkway at about 2 p.m. Monday when they observed a Nissan Altima being driven erratically near New Rochelle’s Wilmot Road, O’Leary said.

After stopping the vehicle, detectives impounded the Salazars' car after finding Teodoro did not have a valid driver’s license, O’Leary said.

The license was valid in Connecticut but suspended in New York, police said.

Teodoro was later reportedly found with several plastic bags containing crystallized ketamine and LSD. Somer was found in possession of a small plastic bag containing ketamine, according to police.

A search of the vehicle reportedly revealed a small bag containing psilocybin mushrooms in the vehicle’s trunk.

Teodoro was charged with second and fourth degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, both felonies. Somer was charged with fifth degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony.
