New Rochelle Taxi Driver Robbed At Gunpoint

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – A taxi driver was pistol-whipped and robbed Saturday morning by a passenger he picked up for a ride from New Rochelle to the Bronx, police said.

The suspect took the driver’s Bluetooth cell phone and money after pointing a small handgun at him when the cab was at Beechwood and Rockdale avenues, Capt. Joseph Schaller said.

The driver was sent to Sound Shore Medical Center with cuts on his forehead and nose.

He called police when he was back at his company’s headquarters and told them the suspect ran up Rockdale Avenue.

Also from the police blotter:

• Shatice Chappel, 19, of 900 Halstead Ave., Apt. 1, Mammaroneck, was charged with petit larceny, a misdemeanor, Saturday, for allegedly taking a tube of toothpaste from Walgreens, 810 Main St.

• Smiley faces and other graffiti were found on the walls of a building at 29 Kress Ave. Friday. A rear window was also found broken. The building, which is currently under construction, had been broken into twice before.

• A 57-year-old Yonkers man’s wallet and cell phone were taken from his 2010 Toyota Tundra parked at 310 Huguenot St. overnight Thursday.
