NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - Several New Rochelle Police Officers showed solidarity for their brothers in blue over the weekend, attending the funerals of five officers assassinated in Dallas, only to come home to hear of the tragedy in Baton Rouge.
Following multiple police-involved fatal shootings around the country, the New Rochelle Police Association is reaching out to the community in an effort to build cohesion amongst the department and the people officers are asked to protect everyday.
Over the weekend, Det. Christopher Greco, the president of the New Rochelle Police Association created a Facebook page for the organization to “promote the positive work of the members of the New Rochelle Police Association.”
According to Greco, he thought to make the page when two days after 11 New Rochelle Police Officers returned from the funerals in Dallas only to hear about 10 police officers shot and killed during an ambush in Louisiana.
“It is a very somber and nervous time for law enforcement in New Rochelle and across our nation,” he said. “I implore our citizens to continue to support your local police department as you have the last 100 years and as we have supported you.
“We are in a relationship with our community and want to continue that positive relationship and will work as hard as necessary to maintain and improve it. I ask that we all work together to improve our relationship and to respect all lives.”
