NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - The New Rochelle Police Department is warning the community to be on high alert, as a scammer continues to pose as a Verizon Wireless employee and attempting to enter the homes of some of the most vulnerable parties in the city.
According to police, at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon, a man claiming to be a Verizon employee appeared at the door of an elderly resident in the area of Pelham Road and Echo Avenue, requesting to be let in to “check equipment.”
The woman did not allow the man into her home, but failed to contact the police, instead contacting Verizon, who warned her that they did not have any employees working in the area at the time. It was later determined by police that other similar incidents have occurred in the area and have gone unreported.
Police described the suspect as a white male in his 40s, wearing glasses, a blue jacket and Verizon ID card on a lanyard. Officials have warned that no one should allow anyone into their homes without a scheduled appointment. Any suspicious activity can be reported to police at (914) 654-2300.
