NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- Though no arrests have been made, New Rochelle murder victim Keita Speed is believed to have had "personal differences," with his assailants, according to police officials.

Captain Joseph Schaller of the NRPD told The Daily Voice, "We're still investigating the situation. We believe the suspect, or suspects, and the victim knew each other, and the conflict may have developed from personal differences between them."

Speed, 45 and a resident of New Rochelle, was found face down on the second floor landing of a building in the Hartley Houses complex on Friday, Jan. 10 at approximately 7:49 p.m. after police were called by a resident of the building, police officials said.

According to Schaller, he was bleeding from a wound in his left shoulder in the area of his neck.

After officers tried unsuccessfully to revive him, he was rushed to Montefiore Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 8:30 p.m. as a result of multiple stab wounds.

Schaller said Speed was not believed to have lived in the building, but may have stayed with a relative or acquaintance there from time to time.

According to a report by LoHud.com , Speed struggled with a crack cocaine addiction, which led to stints in prison for breaking into cars.
