Police confirmed that Gerardo Mattiaccio, 41, is facing a pair of felony charges of second-degree trademark counterfeiting after allegedly selling nearly $3,000 worth of discounted handbags, apparel, cologne and perfumes in a gas station parking lot that ultimately proved to be phonies.
Mattiaccio, who presented himself as an authentic dealer of discounted goods, was arrested on Monday by Stony Point Police following an investigation into his counterfeit business. Several boxes of knockoff Luis Vuitton bags, phony cologne and unsanctioned New York Yankee hats were seized as evidence.
The investigation into Mattiaccio lasted scantly a week before he was brought down. He was released on $300 bail and is due back in Stony Point Town Court on Tuesday, Sept. 23. Inquiries at his home on Tuesday were not answered.
According to reports, Stony Point Police were assisted by representatives from Michael Kors, Luis Vuitton and Major League Baseball to take the counterfeiter down.
