NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – A New Rochelle man was charged with assault after a man was punched in the face outside a nightclub Sunday morning, New Rochelle police Detective Sgt. Robert Torr said.

George Pineda, 29, of 290 Union Ave. was charged with third-degree assault, a misdemeanor, for punching a 45-year-old New Rochelle man, causing him to fall backward to the ground and be knocked unconscious, Torr said. The incident occurred outside a nightclub at 324 Huguenot St. Video surveillance shows Pineda punching the victim, Torr said. The victim was taken to a hospital.

Pineda was later arrested at La Clave Nightclub, 596 Main St., after investigation by police and information from a witness who called to report the assault. The incident occurred a few days after two cousins were stabbed outside of La Clave about 4 a.m. Friday.

The following items also were reported by New Rochelle police.

Phone Robbery:  A 22-year-old New Rochelle resident was robbed of her cell phone Sunday afternoon while walking southbound on Echo Avenue. A teenager hit her in the face and took her $400 white iPhone 4. The teenager then ran northbound on Echo.

Street Assault: A 46-year-old man was attacked by two men with what police think was a pen or an ice pick as he was walking near his home on Coligni Avenue. The victim felt severe pain in his back and struggled with the assailants, who fled westbound on Coligni after the victim ran into his home.
