NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – New Rochelle firefighters joined the American Red Cross to provide free smoke detectors on Thursday, News 12 reports.

Off-duty firefighters installed new detectors in homes and replaced nonfunctioning ones as part of a pilot program expected to expand into other communities, according to the report.
