Mark Lugg, 37, was picking up his three-year-old daughter for court-ordered visitation Nov. 6, 2011 in front of the New Rochelle Police Department on 475 North Ave. While there, he began arguing with the mother of his child about child support and appropriate clothing for their daughter. The mother’s boyfriend stepped in and, after some heated words, punched Lugg in the face.
The defendant then took out a box cutter and slashed the left side of the victim's face, causing massive bleeding. The cut required 50 stitches, and left a permanent scar and the victim still has numbness and pain from the injury.
Lugg threw the blade into a garbage can and its handle onto the street as he and the mother of the child walked into the Police Department. Police responding to the scene found the box cutter handle and blade and arrested the suspect.
Lugg was convicted in October on one count of first-degree assault, a felony, one count of fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon and one count of endangering the welfare of a child, both misdemeanors.
Assistant District Attorney Christine Cervasio, of the Domestic Violence Bureau, prosecuted the case.
