Man, 24, Tackled After Fleeing Police At County Center

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. - Members of law enforcement from Greenburgh and Ardsley apprehended a motorist that had to be tackled near the Westchester County Center after fleeing from Westchester Community College.

At approximately 5 p.m. on Wednesday, March 29, members of the Greenburgh Street Crime Unit assisted the Ardsley Police Department following reports of a man who fled officers on his Yamaha off-road motorcycle int he area of Knollwell Road and the college.

According to police, 24-year-old Mark Haughton drove into oncoming traffic, around multiple vehicles and onto sidewalks, forcing pedestrians onto the street. After evading officers at the college, he allegedly fled southbound on the Bronx River Parkway, where officers observed him come to a stop in front of the County Center while struggling through traffic.

While stopped in traffic, police said that officers then proceeded to attempt to physically stop Haughton, who drove his dirt bike onto the sidewalk before being tackles after being boxed in on Tarrytown Road.


Haugton was arrested and transported to police headquarters, where he was charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs, reckless driving, resisting arrest, unlawful fleeing from a police officer and criminal mischief, all misdemeanors. He also is facing multiple vehicle and traffic violations in both Greenburgh and Ardsley. He is due back in court later this year.
