Blair Robinson, 25, was charged Wednesday with first-degree manslaughter after police responded at 9 p.m. Saturday to St. John’s Hospital on a report of an unresponsive 2-year-old boy who was brought into the emergency room by a family member, said the Yonkers Police Department.
The child was pronounced dead at the hospital; the Westchester Medical Examiner determined his death was due to "blunt force trauma injuries, police said.
A follow-up investigation determined that the child was brought to the hospital by Robinson who resides at 44 Maple St., police said.
Patrol units responded to the home where they found the boy's mother and a 10-month-old female child in what police called "unsanitary conditions." The baby girl was removed from the apartment and turned over to child protective services, police said.
“This was a particularly disturbing investigation for our personnel and I credit our patrol officers and detectives for their efforts and professionalism resulting in this arrest," said Police Commissioner Charles Gardner
Robinson was arrested after an intensive investigation, that included numerous interviews, the collection of forensic evidence and video surveillance, revealed that he had struck the child numerous times causing his death, police added.
The investigation is active and ongoing at this time.
