Shortly before 5 a.m. on Wednesday, a BMW convertible struck a parked SUV on East Third Street near the end of an exit ramp on the Hutch, flipping several times before coming to a rest, several feet away, on its roof.

According to Mount Vernon Police Commissioner Terrance Raynor, both victims in the fatal accident suffered multiple gunshot wounds. The Westchester County Medical Examiner is in the process of determining whether the wreck or gunshots were the cause of the victims’ deaths.

Reports say that the impact of the collision pushed the SUV several feet forward into other parked cars.

Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Their identities have still not been released by police. East Third Street was closed for several hours on Wednesday morning during the morning rush hour, as police continued their investigation into the crash.

Mount Vernon Mayor Ernest Davis could not be immediately reached for comment on Thursday.

Police are asking anyone with information on Wednesday’s accident to alert the Mount Vernon Detective Division at (914) 665-2510.
