To the Editor:
In response to the letter to the editor titled “New Rochelle Residents Oppose Echo Bay Project,” (Aug 21) I think it is important to note that only some residents oppose the project. There are many of us who support this project as an important step in revitalizing our city.
Plain and simple: I believe that Echo Bay will have a positive impact on the economic future of New Rochelle.
This project is about turning dilapidated buildings and a contaminated plot of land into something that will benefit everyone. It will create the largest new public park in a generation, open up the waterfront to greater public access, and add 25,000 square feet of retail space to our downtown area for new shops and restaurants.
In addition to its recreational benefits, Echo Bay will generate tens of millions of dollars in new tax revenue for the city and schools and create jobs.
This project has spent years in the planning stage and I have studied the facts. It’s time to move forward with Echo Bay. I urge my neighbors to look into the project and get the facts for your selves.
