NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – William J. Irwin, a lifelong resident of New Rochelle, died Jan. 7. He was 92.
He was born June 18, 1920, to Edward Irwin and Helen Klotz Irwin. He was a graduate of New Rochelle High School, where he met Geraldine Kelly. They were married on Sept. 18, 1943.
Irwin worked in automobile sales as a salesman, sales manager and general manager at various dealerships for more than four decades. He lived at White Oak Co-Op in New Rochelle for 60 years and served as member, vice president and president of the co-op board.
He owned a second home in Captain Gosnold Village in Hyannis, Mass., where he served on the condominium board of directors. He was a longtime parishioner and usher at Holy Family Church in New Rochelle.
Irwin was predeceased by his wife and a brother, Edward Irwin. He is survived by two sisters, Jane Trainor and Ellen McKinney; a daughter, Patricia (William) Sheerin; and a grandson.
Visitation is from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Lloyd Maxcy & Sons Beauchamp Chapel in New Rochelle. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Holy Family Church. Burial will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in New Rochelle.
