NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- William C."Bill" Crumm of Punta Gorda, Fla. formerly of New Rochelle, New York died Aug. 6. He was 86.
Crumm was born on Dec. 1, 1926, the son of Helen and Alfred Crumm. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II and the Korean War. After the war, he joined the City of New Rochelle Police Department, and become a Lieutenant Detective for the homicide unit. He received many awards for police work and bravery. Crumm retired after 34 years of service. Crumm was active in his community and church, and helped organize events at the Elks and at Echo Bay Yacht Club. He was also active in the Punta Gorda community where he especially enjoyed helping Habitat for Humanity. Crumm is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy Gilday Crumm; children, Christine Gibian, Kathleen Crumm Satriani, William M. Crumm, Eileen Crumm, Dorothy Visco and Robert Crumm; sisters, Geraldine Crumm and Joan Baudouine and 12 grandchildren. A private family service was held.
