Sister Teresa Weed, 92, Teacher New Rochelle Catholic Elementary School

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - Sister Teresa Weed, formerly known as Mother Mary Louis, of New Rochelle died Friday, March 29. She was 92.

Sr. Weed was born Oct. 15, 1921, in New York, to Teresa and Louis Weed. She was a member of the community of St. Teresa in New Rochelle. She entered the Ursulines in 1939 and made her first profession of vows Jan. 22, 1942. In 1945 she began teaching at Blessed Sacrament School in New Rochelle. In 1947 she earned a B.A. in English from the College of New Rochelle.

From 1948 to 1961 she taught in the lower school of The Ursuline School in New Rochelle. From there, she served at the Ursuline Academy in Bethesda, Md., until 1972, returning to teach at New Rochelle Catholic Elementary School from 1972 to 1991. She then began a new ministry, working with children at the Headstart Children’s Center for Learning from 1991 to 2009 as an assistant teacher, and from 2009 to 2013, she volunteered as a foster grandparent.

Sr. Weed is survived by five nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Betty Lou Adair.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, March 31 at the Province Center Chapel. Burial will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in New Rochelle.

In place of flowers, gifts may be sent to the Ursuline Retirement Fund, 1338 North Avenue, New Rochelle, N.Y. 10804.
