Sister Mary Patricia Meiklejohn, 82, Former New Rochelle Teacher

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – Sister Mary Patricia Meiklejohn, a former New Rochelle teacher, died Nov. 15 at Sound Shore Medical Center in New Rochelle. She was 82.

She was born Dec. 24, 1929, Somersworth, N.H., to Odianna Portier and William Meiklejohn. Formerly Sister Mary William, she was a member of the Ursuline Community of St. Teresa in New Rochelle. She entered the Ursulines in 1956 and made her vows in 1959.

From 1961 to 1963, Sister Meiklejohn taught at Blessed Sacrament School in New Rochelle. She went on to teach at St. Philip Neri in the Bronx and at St. Joseph’s in Middletown.

She also taught at the Ursuline School in New Rochelle, New Rochelle Catholic Elementary School, Annunciation School in Crestwood and St. Pius X School in Tuckahoe.

She was assistant superior at the Marian Residence in New Rochelle from 1991 to 1994. She then tutored at schools throughout Westchester.

Sister Meiklejohn held a bachelor's degree from the University of New Hampshire and a master's degree from Manhattan College. She volunteered for Hope Bible Camp and Hope Food Pantry.

She was predeceased by her parents and 10 siblings. She is survived by a brother, the Rev. Norman Meiklejohn, of Fiskdale, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Monday at the Ursuline Province Center. Lloyd Maxcy and Sons Beauchamp Chapel handled arrangements.
