Rev. Brother John Adrian Reidy, 84, New Rochelle Resident

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – Brother John Adrian Reidy, of New Rochelle, died Saturday, Jan. 23. He was 84.

Reidy was born Dec. 16, 1931, in New Rochelle, to John and Louise Taylor Reidy. 

He was a graduate of St. Augustine's in Larchmont, Blessed Sacrament High School and Iona College, where he received a bachelor’s degree in history and a master’s degree in pastoral counseling. He received his master’s degree in religious education from Fordham University.

He entered the Congregation of the Christian Brothers on June 26, 1950, and took his final vows on Sept. 8, 1958. His ministry took him to many posts, including All Hallows High School, Cardinal Hayes High School, Rice High School, St. Laurence High School in Burbank, Illinois; Essex Catholic High School in Newark, New Jersey; Bishop Kearney High School in Rochester, the Iona College Community, the Christian Brothers-Santa Maria Community and the St. Joseph's Residence-Cabrini on Hudson.

He is survived by his sister, Carol Douglass and her husband, Bob.

A wake will be held Thursday from 2-5 p.m. at St. Joseph's Residence, 30 Montgomery Circle, New Rochelle. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 9:30 a.m. at Holy Family Church, Mayflower Ave., New Rochelle. Interment will follow at Christian Brothers Cemetery in West Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to St. Joseph's Residence.
