NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – Philip Rosen, 92, of New Rochelle died on Sunday, Jan. 19.

Rosen was born in the Bronx on Sept. 1, 1921 to Isadore and Anna Rosen. He graduated from Townsend Harris High School and Cornell University. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Cornell, won a Merit scholarship and was also a member of the Cornell crew team.

He worked as an engineer for Stone and Webster while working for the United States government on “The Manhattan Project.” He served as a Lieutenant for the U.S. Navy during World War II. After the war, he joined his father’s masonry contracting business, Isadore Rosen and Sons, which constructed many buildings in the metropolitan area.

Rosen was also a a benefactor of Technion in Israel, a founder of The Chemotherapy Foundation, a benefactor of New Rochelle Hospital, The Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, and the Anti-Defamation League of B'Nai Brith. He was active in UJA, Federation of Jewish Philanthropies, and United Way. He was an honorary trustee of Temple Israel of New Rochelle, on the Board of Trustees of the Jewish Braille Institute (JBI), and was the founding member of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine's Young Men's Division. He loved literature, art, collecting stamps and shells, and skiing.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Rita; daughter Phyllis Hadley; son Michael Rosen; son-in-laws Robert Landes and Richard Hadley; daughter-in-law Stephanie Rosen; and nine grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter, Wendy.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. at Temple Israel of New Rochelle, 1000 Pinebrook Blvd., New Rochelle, N.Y. Donations in Philip's memory should be made to The Wendy Walk or to the Albert Einstein College of Medicine Men's Division.
