NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – Patricia "Pat" Milligan, of New Rochelle, died Saturday, Feb. 13. She was 87.
She was born in New York in 1928. She spent her childhood and youth in City Island. Her first school was P.S. 17. She graduated from Hunter College. Her early career was with Bell Telephone. She later decided that teaching was her calling and rose to the role of assistant principal at James Monroe High School in the Bronx.
In the 1980s, she was intrigued by the idea of a second career in law. She took the LSATs and was admitted to Pace University's Law School. Her graduation, and the fact that she was sworn in before the U.S. Supreme Court, were sources of family pride.
She is survived by her brother Robert Malcolm Milligan; nieces Alexandra M. Allen and Noni Patricia Heinemann and their husbands, William F. Allen and Paul Anton Heineman; nephews Robert Malcolm Milligan Jr. and Charles Land Milligan. She delighted in the next generation: John Alexander Allen, Cameron Marie Allen, Anton Patrick Heinemann, William Ellis Allen, John Malcolm Milligan and Kim An Milligan.
She was predeceased by her father, Robert Galt Milligan; mother Martha McInnes Milligan; brother Alexander Milligan; close friend and sister-in-law Sibyl Rowland Milligan and Irene Land Milligan.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, March 5, at 10 a.m. at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 111 Oenoke Ridge, New Canaan, Conn. The family will greet friends immediately after the service. Later there will be a private interment of ashes at Pelham Cemetery.
