Martha R. Broadie-Leak, 102, New Rochelle Resident

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – Martha R. Broadie-Leak, a longtime resident of New Rochelle, died Tuesday, March 8. She was 102.

She was born to Charles and Ellen (Harris) Byrd in Winnsboro, N.C., where she began her formal education, and completed it in Baltimore. She was co-founder of Gospel Temple Church of America. She was married to Bishop Benjamin H. Broadie, who predeceased her. She then married Elder Fetson Leak, founder and pastor of Faith Temple COGIC of New Rochelle, who also predeceased her.

Surviving are a son, Darryl A. Broadie (Michelle); four grandchildren, Dannen Broadie, Jerron Broadie, James Hollis and Robert Hollis; three great-grandchildren, Eric, Natalia and Isaac Broadie; a special niece, Kathleen Robinson (Garfield); and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members.

The family will receive friends Saturday, March 19, from 7-9 p.m. at Faith Temple COGIC, 12 DeWitt Place, New Rochelle, and Sunday from 6-8 p.m. at The New Gospel Temple COGIC, 1554-56 Minford Place, Bronx. Interment will take place Monday in East Hanover, N.J.
