Lewis Strachan, 72, Longtime New Rochelle Resident

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – Lewis Strachan, a longtime resident of New Rochelle, died on July 10. He was 72.

Born Dec. 5, 1939 in Miami, Fla., he was the son of Magnolia Strachan. Raised in Miami, he graduated local public schools and completed two years of college. After serving in the U.S. Air Force, Strachan married Linda Maxine Furman.  

He worked as a toll collector for the New York State Thruway Authority for many years. Strachan was a member of American Legion Post 90 Mamaroneck. 

He is survived by his wife, Linda; three sons, Lewis Strachan II, Jason Strachan and Kenneth Allen (Towanda) Strachan; four daughters, Andreanna Strachan, Katrina (Derrick) Strachan-Thorpe, Valeria (Roy) Grimes and Elizabeth A. Addo; a brother, Herman Clark; six sisters, Emily Davis, Daisy Black, Marie Brandon, Marilyn Winson, Tangeleatha Clark and Darlene Sambrano; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by two sisters and a brother. 

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Barney T. McClanahan Funeral Home in New Rochelle. A funeral service will held at 11 a.m. Friday at Gospel Tabernacle Church of Christ in New Rochelle.
