Kathleen Schiaffino, 69, New Rochelle Native

Kathleen M. Schiaffino, 69, a resident of Hopewell Junction since 1996, who formerly lived in New Rochelle, died on Sunday, May 14, at her home following a long illness.

Everyone who knew Schiaffino knew her to be an intelligent, kind, strong, independent, and fiercely loyal person who was devoted to her husband and family.

Born in Hicksville on Long Island on June 6, 1947, she was the daughter of William McAleer and Anne (O'Connor) McAleer. 

An associate professor of psychology and department chair at Fordham University for many years, Schiaffino received her bachelor's degree from Mount St. Vincent College, her master's in counseling from Indiana University, her master's in social work from Columbia University, and her Ph.D. in psychology from CUNY Graduate Center.

She is survived by her husband Robert J. Schiaffino; her daughter, Andrea Payne and her husband Mark Payne of Hopewell Junction; her son, Brian Schiaffino of Poughkeepsie; her grandchildren, Massimo, Stella, and Briasia, and her sister, Terry McManus of Franklin, Tenn.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, May 19 from 3 to 7 p.m. at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill at 1089 Main St., Fishkill.
