John A. O’Neill, 85, Retired New Rochelle Police Officer

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - John A. O’Neill, a lifetime resident of New Rochelle, died Dec. 7. He was 85.

O’Neill was born Oct. 8, 1928, in New Rochelle, to Jack and Mary. O’Neill. He was a retired New Rochelle Police Officer having worked for over 25 years. He was a member of the New Rochelle PBA. He served in the Coast Guard and was a licensed charter boat captain who was the captain of the Shamrock for over 30 years. After he retired from the police department he worked at the New Rochelle Municipal Marina where he was currently employed.

O’Neill is survived by his wife, Emma; sons, John O’Neill, Jr. and Lee Hebenstreit; four grandchildren; and brother, Thomas. He was predeceased by his parents.

Calling hours are Monday, Dec. 9 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Lloyd Maxcy & Sons Beauchamp Chapel, 16 Shea Place, New Rochelle where a funeral service will be held Monday at 8 p.m. Interment will be private.
