John M. O'Toole (Jack), 86, New Rochelle Resident

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- John M. O'Toole (Jack), a longtime resident of New Rochelle died on Aug. 12.

Jack was born in New Rochelle on January 10, 1929 to Harriett B (Morse) and Dennis O'Toole and remained a resident of the city until 2002 when he moved to Pelham.

Over the years, he had been a member of the Davenport Club in New Rochelle and of the Larchmont Shore Club. He was a parishioner of Holy Family Church for many years and then returned to Blessed Sacrament where he attended school as a child.

He served in WWII as a Paratrooper for the 82nd Airborne Division out of Fort Bragg. Once his service was completed Jack took a position at the New York Telephone Company in New Rochelle. He rose through the ranks holding various positions in White Plains, Manhattan and Long Island until he retired in 1985. With the exception of a long recovery after a serious car accident he had returning from late night strike duty during the CWA strike in 1971, Jack had a perfect attendance record and was awarded a gold watch that he wore proudly for many years.

His wife of fifty-one years Patricia Lysaght O'Toole, his son Michael Dennis O'Toole and his grandson Aaron Michael Hobbs precede Jack in death. He is survived by his children: John of Guangxi, China, Kathleen of Milford, New Jersey, Neal and his wife Gabrielle of Lakeland, Florida, Mary and her husband Andrew Dietterle of Bradenton, Florida. He also leaves behind nine grandchildren, Jennifer, Chelsea, Tara, Thomas, Matthew, Meaghan, Brian, Liam and Patrick and six great-grandchildren, Christian, Sara, Taylor, Chloe, Carley and Courtney. James O'Toole, Jack's younger brother, lives with his wife Lenora in Newport News, Virginia. Jack spent the last years of his life living in Pelham, traveling with his wife Kathleen (nee Pierce) and spending time with her four children and their families.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, Aug. 24 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Pelham Manor.
