John Gallagher, 88, New Rochelle WWII Veteran

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – John Gallagher, a longtime New Rochelle resident, died Sept. 29. He was 88. 

Gallagher was born June 19, 1924, in New York City to John and Margaret Cosgrove Gallagher. He served in the Army Air Reserve during World War II. Gallagher was a past president of the Eastchester Irish American Club and a supporter of youth sports and the Cub Scouts. He was also an avid golfer. 

He was predeceased by his wife, Kathleen Healion Gallagher, in 1993. Gallagher is survived by three children, Kathleen Gallagher, Kevin (Cindy) Gallagher and James (Colleen) Gallagher; four grandchildren and several cousins. 

Visitation is from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Lloyd Maxcy and Sons Beauchamp Chapel in New Rochelle. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Family Church in New Rochelle. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne.
